Day 1

Arrival in Paro and Drive to Thimphu

Your journey begins with a spectacular flight to the Paro International Airport. As you descend into the airport, the Mount Everest and Kanchenjunga peaks often peek through the shadows. Upon landing, your local guide will greet you with a traditional Tashi Khada (scarf) and immediately drive you toward the Bhutanese capital of Thimphu.

Before entering the capital, you will visit the National Memorial Chorten and join the locals circumambulating the stupa.

Day 2

Thimphu Sightseeing

Today, you will experience the living culture of Bhutan. The day begins with an excursion to the Buddha Dordenma, a massive golden statue overlooking the Thimphu Valley. Next, you will visit the Zorig Chusam (Arts and Crafts School), where you can watch students master the thirteen traditional arts. The evening is dedicated to an excursion to Tashichho Dzong, or the “Fortress of Glorious Religion.”

Day 3

Thimphu to Punakha via Dochula Pass

Leaving Thimphu behind, you will ascend to the Dochula Pass (3,100 meters). On a clear day, you can see the 108 memorial chortens against a panoramic backdrop of the snow-capped Himalayas. Next, you will descend into the lush Punakha valley and hike through the rice paddies to Chimi Lhakhang, “The Fertility Temple.”

The day ends at Punakha Dzong, one of the most beautiful fortresses in the country, located at the confluence of the Mother and Father rivers.

Day 4

Punakha to Paro & Tiger's Nest Hike

Today is the ultimate highlight of your Bhutan tour. You will drive back to Paro and take on a hike to the Paro Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest Monastery). Perched on a cliff 900 meters above the valley, the monastery is believed to be a meditation spot of the revered Guru Rinpoche. The hike to Paro Taktsang takes you on a steady ascent across pine forests.

In the evening, you can visit the Kichu Lakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest temples, to offer a butter lamp.

Day 5

Departure

After an early breakfast, you can explore some of your favorite locations in Paro. Spend some time buying last-minute souvenirs, including handmade paper or prayer wheels. Depending on your departure time, your guide will help transfer you back to the airport.
