Kathmandu to Lhasa Overland Adventure Itinerary

Day 1

Drive from Kathmandu to Kerung Border

Leaving behind the chaos of Kathmandu, you will begin your 8-day Kathmandu to Lhasa Overland Adventure. Your journey passes through the Nepal-China border at Kerung. At the border, the border guards on both sides conduct immigration formalities beforeyour crossing into Tibet.

Day 2

Drive from Kerung to Tingri or Lhatse

Today’s journey takes you on an uphill drive onto the Tibetan Plateau. You will experience the scenery transform into a vast, open landscape with views of snow-capped peaks. You will settle into Tingri or Lhatse, a small windswept town that acts as the gateway to the high peaks.

Day 3

Drive from Tingri to Ronbuk (Everest View)

Today’s journey is short but takes you to one of the most iconic locations of the tour, the Ronbuk Monastery. You will find basic accommodation today, allowing you to immerse yourself in the majestic natural surroundings.

Day 4

Drive from Ronbuk to Shigatse

After catching an unforgettable sunrise over Everest, you will begin your drive to Shigatse. This is Tibet’s second-largest city. In Shigatse, you can enjoy a warm meal and find comfortable accommodation in your hotel.

Day 5

Shigatse via Gyantse to Lhasa

The morning begins with a visit to the Tashilhunpo Monastery, the seat of the Panchen Lama. After the brief excursion, you will drive to Gyantse to view the Pelkor Chode Monastery and the Kumbum Stupa. The journey continues towards Tibet’s capital of Lhasa, passing the stunning Yamdrok Lake. You will reach Lhasa in the late evening.

Day 6-7

Lhasa Sightseeing

The next two days are dedicated to a Lhasa sightseeing tour that takes you deep into the soul of Tibet. The tour also allows you to join local pilgrims in the circumambulation ritual of Kora around the Jokhang Temple. In the Sera Monastery, you can witness the famous monk debates and explore the summer palace of Norbulingka before ending your day with a walk through Barkhor Street.

Day 8

Lhasa to Kathmandu

You have come to the end of your 8-day Kathmandu to Lhasa tour. Depending on your scheduled flight, you will be transferred to the Lhasa Gonggar Airport for your flight back to Kathmandu. You leave the “Roof of the World” with memories that you will cherish for a lifetime.
