Arrive in Kathmandu
Welcome to the spiritual heart of Nepal! Upon arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport, the bustling city lifestyle of Kathmandu greets you. Our representative will meet and help transfer you to your hotel, where you can spend some time resting and unwinding. In the evening, you can explore the vibrant tourist hub of Thamel, pick up any last-minute trekking gear, and meet your guide for a pre-trekking briefing.
Flight to Lukla, then trek to Phakding
Your trek officially kicks off today. A thrilling flight to Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla takes you to the gateway to Everest. The short runway and mountain backdrop make it one of the most exciting air strips in the world. Upon landing, you will meet your porters and begin a gentle descent toward Phakding.
Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar
Today is a test of your lungs. The journey takes you across the famous Hillary Suspension Bridge and past the zigzagging trails along pine forests. Your final ascent before reaching Namche Bazaar is the challenging Namche Hill. About halfway up the hill, you will find a small opening in the trees, offering the first glimpse of Mount Everest. This is a perfect motivation to continue the climb.
Acclimatization day in Namche; Hike to Everest View Hotel
To allow your lungs to adjust to the increasing altitude, you need to stop and acclimatize. You will follow the golden rule of “climb high, sleep low.” As part of this process, you will hike up to the Everest View Hotel for panoramic vistas of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. As you descend back to Namche Bazaar, you can visit the Khumjung Village to see the “Yeti Scalp.”
Trek from Namche to Tengboche
As you depart the bustling mountain hub of Namche Bazaar, you will follow some of the most spectacular Himalayan trails. The journey winds around the mountainside with Everest standing tall in the foreground. Your trek consists of a gentle descent to Phungi Thenga before reaching the spiritual center of Tengboche.
Aim to reach the village by 3:00 PM to witness the afternoon prayers at the Tengboche Monastery. Soak in the spiritual ambiance of the monastery as the resonance of Tibetan horns and the smell of juniper incense take over.
Trek from Tengboche to Dingboche
Today’s trek takes you across the 4,000-meter mark. As you enter this high-altitude terrain, you will notice arid, desert-like landscapes. Your journey takes you across Imja Khola and passes through Pangboche. By late afternoon, you will reach the “Summer Valley” of Dingboche, where stone walls stand tall to protect the barley and buckwheat crops from cold mountain winds.
Acclimatization in Dingboche
Another vital acclimatization awaits you in Dingboche. As a part of the acclimatization process, you will hike up to the Nangkar Tshang Peak (5,100 meters). From the top, you will see the fifth-highest mountain, Makalu, in the distance. “Bistarai, Bistarai” (slowly, slowly) is the key to ensuring you are properly acclimatized. Additionally, the slow pace ensures you have the energy to reach the Base Camp in two days.
Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche
From Dingboche, your trek takes you to Thukla, followed by a steep climb to the Thukla Pass (Memorial Hill). This is a poignant memorial ground filled with stone chortens dedicated to climbers who perished on Everest. From here, the trail levels out as you walk alongside the Khumbu Glacier toward Lobuche.
Lobuche to Gorakshep & Everest Base Camp
You have reached the ultimate highlight of your 13-day classic Everest Base Camp Trek. The day begins with a trek to Gorakshep. Here, you will stop for a quick lunch and drop off your duffel bags before the final push to Everest Base Camp.
Walking on the edge of the Khumbu Glacier, you will reach the foot of the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest. Spend some time there and let the feeling of standing on the base of the highest point of Earth kick in before returning to Gorakshep for the night.
Hike to Kala Patthar, then trek to Pheriche
Your journey today begins before dawn. With flashlights and headlamps, you will navigate the steep and rugged terrain to Kala Patthar. The climb is difficult, but the reward is immense. You will reach the Kala Patthar summit just in time for sunrise. Watch the first rays of the sun paint the Himalayan skies in shades of gold before descending to the warmer and oxygen-rich Pheriche.
Trek from Pheriche to Namche Bazaar
The trek from Pheriche to Namche Bazaar takes you back through the forests and villages you passed a few days ago. Enjoy the Himalayan panorama from a new perspective as you return to civilization in Namche. Enjoy a hot shower. Later, you can head to the world’s highest Irish Pub for a drink to celebrate your success with your team.
Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla
You have reached the final day of trekking. From Namche, you will descend Namche Hill and cross several suspension bridges before reaching Lukla. Tonight, it’s customary to have a “farewell dinner” with your porters and guides.
Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu
The return to Kathmandu begins early. A morning flight takes you from the mountains back to the country’s capital. Upon landing in the Kathmandu airport, our representatives will help transfer you to your hotel, officially concluding the 13-day Classic Everest Base Camp Trekking in Nepal.
